Follow the technological, political and human story of the Space Race: rocket research, the first astronauts, NASA’s hidden labour, the Moon landing and the risks after Apollo 11. The currently selected library is strongest on the United States; Soviet milestones are explicitly named where coverage is missing.
A compact, carefully selected introduction spanning the main phases without pretending to cover every region or development. Ambition, engineering and Cold War rivalry.
Sputnik 1 launched in 1957 and Yuri Gagarin reached orbit in 1961 before American orbital milestones. The available library overrepresents the US/NASA experience; these absences are stated rather than covered by unrelated films.
14.10.1947 → 15.05.1963
ПРЕДСТАВЛЕННАЯ ИСТОРИЯ 14.10.1947 → 15.05.1963
Begin with dangerous test-flight culture and the origins of the Mercury astronaut corps.
The film spans the late 1940s to the early 1960s and fictionalizes dialogue; its early chronology overlaps later works.
ПРЕДСТАВЛЕННАЯ ИСТОРИЯ 04.10.1957 → 1960
Connect Sputnik’s shock with science education and a new generation of engineers.
Inspired by Homer Hickam’s youth in 1957–60 West Virginia; family scenes and competition are dramatized.
1953 → 20.02.1962
ПРЕДСТАВЛЕННАЯ ИСТОРИЯ 1953 → 20.02.1962
Recognize African American mathematicians whose work supported early NASA missions.
NASA’s segregation and computing work were real; the film compresses professional timelines and invents symbolic incidents.
ПРЕДСТАВЛЕННАЯ ИСТОРИЯ 1961 → 24.07.1969
Follow Neil Armstrong from test piloting through Gemini to the first lunar landing.
Covers 1961–69; the mission milestones are historical though family dialogue and some personal motives are inferred.
16.07.1969 → 24.07.1969
ПРЕДСТАВЛЕННАЯ ИСТОРИЯ 16.07.1969 → 24.07.1969
Watch archival mission footage as the landing itself becomes the center of the story.
Apollo 11 launched 16 July 1969 and landed on 20 July; archival montage still reflects editorial selection.
11.04.1970 → 17.04.1970
ПРЕДСТАВЛЕННАЯ ИСТОРИЯ 11.04.1970 → 17.04.1970
Discover the hazards that persisted after the first lunar landing.
In April 1970 an oxygen-tank failure forced an aborted lunar landing; the screenplay compresses conversations and some ground roles.
Apollo 11 landed in July 1969, Apollo 13 survived an emergency in 1970, and Apollo missions continued through 1972. Soviet stations, US Skylab and later international programs form the next space history chapter.
