Die Serie "Turn" basiert auf dem Roman Washington's Spies: The Story of America's First Spy Ring von Alexander Rose und spielt im Sommer 1778. Genauer gesagt zwei Jahre nach Ausbruch des amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitskrieges der 13 Kolonien gegen die britische Kolonialmacht. Die bis dato bekannte Welt befindet sich im Wandel. Im Mittelpunkt der Serie steht der bescheidene Familienvater und Farmer Abe Woodhull (Jamie Bell, "Billy Elliot-I will dance", "King Kong") aus Long Island, der diese Aufbruchstimmung voller Enthusiasmus erlebt. Mit einigen Freunden aus Kindheitstagen gründet er daher die kühne Spionageorganisation "Culper Ring", eine Einheit aus ungleichen, aber leidenschaftlichen Patrioten, die mehr oder weniger offiziell um die nationale Unabhängigkeit der Kolonien kämpft. Abe und seine Verbündeten versuchen auf ihren Wegen die amerikanische Geschichtsschreibung zu beeinflussen.
